NaNoWriMo Journal: Day One/Week one

So here we are on the first day and first week of NaNoWriMo and thinks are going pretty well so far. I finished planning and outlining the chapters the day before Halloween. Took a break from all writing on the 31st to decorate the house, read a little, watch horror movies, play some video games, eat pizza, and give out candy. Good times.

I meant to wake up November 1st at around 6 AM, but my cat insisted on being fed at 5 instead. Ate an early breakfast, got my coffee, and started writing at around 7:30. Wrote about 1,775 words in two hours. Saved my work and drank more coffee. I may have to bring the coffee maker to my room for the remainder of the month to keep myself this productive.

The novel begins in the ’70s, so it was a lot of fun researching that decade and inserting little details to bring myself and the reader to this time and place. It’s hard to imagine a world without all of the conveniences and technology we enjoy today. I will most likely go back later and refine the details, but for now I’m pleased with how the setting is developing.

I think the hardest part will be writing from multiple points of view. My previous novel was written through the lens of a limited third-person narrator focusing on only one main character. This novel is a bit more ambitious since there are multiple main characters who will have an impact on the story.

Another update will come next Friday. If you’re participating in NaNoWriMo as well, then feel free to get in touch with me here or at the official website. I’d love to connect with other writers. Cheers!
